Situated in the heart of Yamanouchi, the famed home of Japan’s world-renowned Snow Monkeys, the historic Ryokan Sansuikaku has been beautifully reimagined and was opened as Snow Monkey Lodge in September 2025.
Much of our growing acclaim is thanks to the extraordinary work of artist Rio Nakano, whose vibrant and evocative murals -both inside and out- celebrate the Japanese macaque and the spirit of the region. Each guest room is individually styled to showcase the richness of Japanese aesthetics, creating a truly immersive experience.
But Snow Monkey Lodge is more than just a place to stay. It’s a gateway to the natural beauty, rich history, and world-class seasonal adventures of Nagano. Our in-house guiding company offers curated tours throughout winter, spring, and autumn. In winter, guests can join Japan Powder Culture Tours to ski some of the finest powder snow in the country. During the warmer months, Nagano Tours leads off-the-beaten-path excursions through lush forests, mountain trails, and traditional villages.
